****************************** Seamus is our fun loving Leprechaun - a delightful bear to add magic to any day. He is honey coloured, and lusciously soft with jointed legs. He sits approximately 30cm high, with jointed legs, and overall measures approximately 37cm. He is dressed in an emerald green, high collared, long jacket, with orange vest, white shirt with gold buttons, and has an emerald green bow tie. To complete his outfit, he wears a typically tall hat with large buckle. His pads are soft suedette, and the feet are embroidered on the right pad with a clover, and on the left pad with the word Ireland. What a wonderful keepsake for those from Ireland, or those just enchanted by that amazing country, and its wonderful people. What a grand way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day too - he also loves Craic (fun enjoyment and light hearted mischief).
Wording on the ear-tag on Seamus reads IRELAND To most people Ireland is an impossibly green island of warm welcomes, friendly people, music and a healthy dose of humour. It has an immensely varied history dating back to Irish mythology and folklore of pre-Celtic times, incorporating 'faerie folk', 'faerie forts' and 'faerie rings' (stone circles). Leprechauns (Laucharma'n) are the best known of the fairy people. Legend has it that after Ireland was invaded by the Danes Leprechauns were assigned to guard the Danish treasures, which the Leprechauns then buried in pots at the end of rainbows. When the Danes wanted to collect their gold, they had to wait until it rained to find the whereabouts of their gold. Leprechauns do not like rain or rainbows!
LEPRECHAUNS Leprechauns avoid being seen, and if caught are obliged to tell the truth, but in doing so can be tricky. They bribe their way to freedom offering gold coins to their captor, coins which turn to ashes when they depart. Once, a farmer caught a Leprechaun, who was obliged to tell the farmer under which bush he'd hidden the pot of gold. The farmer marked the bush with his red handkerchief and ran to get his shovel, but upon his return found the Leprechaun had tied red handkerchiefs to every bush for as far as he could see. Leprechauns are known to be partial to poteen, and will harness goats, sheep, dogs and even chickens and ride them through the countryside at night.
