Peacekeeper Bear
These bears were designed, and manufactured especially for the Australian Peacekeepers Memorial Project. A major portion of the purchase price of all bears will be used by the APMP to assist them in the building of a Memorial to Australian Peacekeepers in Canberra - projected to cost $3 million and scheduled for a delayed opening of September, 2010.
"Peacekeeper Bear" - is oatmeal in colour and has jointed limbs. Overall he measures approx. 43cm, and is dressed in Australian camouflage uniform, with a cute Peacekeeper beret featuring a high quality badge. He has been manufactured to our usual high standard, and as indicative with all our bears, the ear-tag he wears summarises the theme of the bear - our Peacekeepers.
Overseas customers please email, fax or post us the completed order form, this will ensure appropriate postage is paid

A MEMORIAL TO RECOGNISE AUSTRALIAN PEACEKEEPING
Australian Peacekeeping
Australia has been involved in international peace operations for over 60 years. Today Australia contributes significantly to peace operations with military & police contingents, and with civilian experts in a wide range of supporting roles such as governance, institution building, electoral reform & border control. Australia is presently supporting UN missions in the Middle East, the Sudan, Sinai, Cyprus and Timor Leste, and is a partner in coalition peace operations in the Sinai, the Solomon Islands, Afghanistan and Iraq.

The proposed Australian Peacekeeping Memorial will be designed to commemorate the courage, sacrifice, service and valour of Australians, in the same spirit of service of peacekeeping operations. It will celebrate Australia’s long and distinguished contribution to international peacekeeping. The site allocated on Anzac Parade for the memorial is the one nearest Constitution Avenue, on the Campbell side. The design of the Australian Peacekeeping Memorial will portray appropriate messages about Australian peacekeeping, and record with pride the achievement of our peacekeepers, recognise the difficult and often dangerous nature of peace operations, acknowledge the sacrifices those peacekeepers and their families have suffered and educate the community about the noble and positive impact of peace operations around the world.. Veteran peacekeepers are encouraged to join the APMP, to support and comment on the development of the Memorial. It is estimated the Memorial will cost over $3m, with the planned opening scheduled for September 2009.
In Memory Peacekeeping is a difficult and often dangerous assignment, Australian contingents led by young Australian military officers and NCOs and police, supported by civilian experts, have performed very well over many years in difficult circumstances. Unfortunately, as in other dangerous overseas operations, Australian peacekeepers have also suffered casualties, some have died or been injured, with many traumatized. We should remember them.
